Mark Ian - If This Is Good Love (ft. Claire Kostich) Lyrics
[Verse: Mark]
I really cannot fight these demons 'Cause I know all of the names I really do not like this feeling Love is not a winnable game [Pre-Chorus: Claire] She said Do you see the roses Do you see the thorns I said I don't see anything Not anymore Do you hear the thunder Do you hear the screams It's really no surprise That the thunder's inside me [Chorus: Mark] 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you So why does this game Rip through my veins If this is good love [Verse 2: Claire] I want happiness But, I think all is lost Or is this all far too much We may be enough [Pre-Chorus: Mark] She said Do you see the roses Do you see the thorns I said I don't see anything Not anymore Do you hear the thunder Do you hear the screams It's really no surprise That the thunder's inside me [Chorus: Claire] 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you So why does this game Rip through my veins If this is good love [Chorus: Both] 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you So why does this game Rip through my veins If this is good love 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you 'Cause I'm so in love with you I'm so in love with you So why does this game Rip through my veins If this is good love |
About“If This Is Good Love” began its life in a University of La Verne songwriting class, penned originally by Emily Arenal. What started as a classroom composition grew into something much larger when Mark Ian later revisited it for his senior project, reshaping and expanding it into a full duet that explores the fault lines, contradictions, and raw emotions behind a love that feels beautiful and unbearable at the same time.
Reimagined with Claire as the female lead and Mark as the male lead, the song unfolds as a conversation between two people caught in the tension of deep affection and inner turmoil. Each voice carries its own emotional weight: the fear of loss, the ache of insecurity, the craving for connection, and the thunderous pressure of trying to love while fighting inner demons. The minimalistic verses contrast with the storm-like intensity of the pre-chorus—where roses, thorns, thunder, and screams become metaphors for the conflict inside each of them. As the duet builds, both perspectives collide in a shared confession: “I’m so in love with you.” Yet that declaration doesn’t silence the questions. Instead, the chorus asks the heart-crushing line that sits at the center of the song: “So why does this game rip through my veins… if this is good love?” The track captures the paradox of loving someone deeply while wrestling with fear, doubt, and emotional scars—a kind of love that feels both saving and destructive. In its final form within Le voyage de la verne, “If This Is Good Love” becomes more than a class assignment. It becomes a narrative centerpiece: a dialogue between two hearts trying to understand whether the love they feel is strong enough to withstand the storms inside them. It’s tender, conflicted, and painfully honest—a song that speaks to every listener who has ever questioned whether something so powerful could also be so hard. Credits
